What You Should Look for in a Tutor

  • October 29, 2015

So you’ve decided that your child needs help in a certain subject or that they should continue their studies over the summer. That’s great news. Now you have to go find the perfect tutor for them. After all, they are going to be spending a lot of time together and are going to be responsible for helping your child learn. So how do you go about doing it? This is what you should look for in a tutor for your child.

Approachability

Each tutor is going to have to walk that fine line between friend and teacher, but the one you choose should ultimately be one that is approachable. Studies have shown that students who learn in an environment where they are in fear or constant anxiety do not do well at all. Some are going to be more strict than others, and the level that you need is ultimately going to come down to your child’s needs. Overall, someone who is friendlier, more approachable, and more fun will do better in helping your child.

Experience

You want someone who has demonstrated mastery of the material, and has experience in teaching someone of your child’s age. Being good at something doesn’t automatically make you a good teacher. From there you want to make sure that they have put their knowledge to use. What kind of grades have they achieved? Have they helped anyone before? Do they have experience teaching? One thing that you can be sure of is that all of our employees are highly-trained. They are selected only after a rigorous process, and all have demonstrated mastery of the material. We only work with the best and want you to know that we will find the perfect tutor for you.

Adaptability

Each student is going to be different. Not everyone can learn the same way or wants to learn the same things. The mark of a great tutor is that they can adapt based on the child’s needs, abilities, and personality. You are going to want someone who knows when to ease up and when to put the pressure on. They need to be able to adjust the material each lesson to stay in line with the goals of the course.

Making the decision to get extra schooling for your child is the easy part. Finding the right person to do it is difficult. That’s why we here at Services Tutorat want to help you find the perfect fit. This is what you should look for in a tutor.
