Choosing a tutor is not really about finding someone who knows the subject. Most people who studied it know it. What matters is whether they can teach it to your child, at their level, in the way that child learns.
How we recruit
Every tutor goes through the same process before being assigned to a student: a telephone interview, document checks, a signed agreement, and registration on our platform.
Two things weigh most heavily. Experience in tutoring, which is not the same as experience in a subject: explaining one to one has little to do with lecturing to a class. And knowledge of the Quebec curriculum, because a tutor who does not know how the ministry exams are marked cannot prepare a student for them.
The criminal record check
A criminal record check is carried out for every tutor before the first session. It is part of recruitment, not an option. When someone comes into your home, or works one to one with your child online, this is not a detail.
How a tutor is matched to a student
You tell us what is going wrong. We ask about the level, the subject, what the school has said, and what has already been tried. From there we assign the tutor who knows that subject best at that level.
The first session is an assessment. The tutor establishes where the actual gap sits, which is often not where the marks suggest, and writes a report. A follow-up call comes after it.
If the match does not work, you can change tutor, up to twice, at no cost and without having to justify it. A tutor who is excellent with one student can be wrong for another, and that is not a failure on anyone’s part.
A written report after every session
After each session the tutor writes down what was covered, what held, and what still needs work. You do not have to ask your child how it went, and you do not have to guess.
This is what most distinguishes a structured service from an ad hoc arrangement: you can see the progression, session after session, in writing.
In your home or online
Both formats are available anywhere in Quebec, with the same tutors and the same method. Some children switch off in front of a screen and need someone beside them; others concentrate better at home with no travel involved.
In-home tutoring is $45 an hour, travel included. Online is $40 an hour. Blocks of 10 or 15 hours bring the hourly rate down, and the hours never expire.
What we do not do
We do not offer orthopedagogy, and we do not run group lessons. School tutoring goes up to CEGEP and no further. If your need falls outside that, we will tell you plainly rather than take the work.
